Hello from japan! While I try to figure out what this geisha-themed drama I've been watching for the past two hours is about, please occupy yourselves with some pictures from the trip so far:

So because I'm doing a western comic I have allowed myself to develop an enthusiasm for cacti of all sorts. I'm not sure if that's productive or just sad. In any case, I now have five or so little darlings to grow and nurture, here are my three most recent ones:


They are an Old Man cactus, a Brain Cactus, and a Tiger Jaw Aloe respectively. I also have a growing plot of Pincushion cacti, because they keep budding and breaking off and forming new plants. Lastly, I have some sort of succulent clipping that my parents got from my uncle all the way out in California when they took my brother to college. I am not sure what it's called but it's got a knobby central stem and a bunch of thick, squishy, dart-shaped "leaves" sprouting off of it. I'll try to get a picture up later. I HAD a Barrel cactus and a much bigger Old Man, but I left them outside at my house for too long and they both got root rot and died. sob. I am contemplating getting a rubber plant as well.

Guys I had a cool idea for an art project.

If you have the time, scribble some kind of human-ish silhouette on a piece of paper or in paint or something. Emphasis on "scribble". Don't put a lot of thought or effort into it, and don't make it very large. Then scan it or something and post it in a comment here. I'd like to take those silhouettes and try to make a character out of them.

If you all try it too, it'd be awesome to see all the different stuff we come up with for the same thing! I'll post a whole mess of them if I get a bunch. If I don't, I'll come up with some on my own. hoho

Does anyone want a free sketch? I love you guys and I need to get back into using a tablet. Just got a new medium-sized Intuos 4. Thing is sexy. I am trying new things with my style as well, so be forewarned. :V

Today I found out that I can hear tones that cannot be heard by people over a certain age. I found this out because the guy in the office next to mine was playing an mp3 of a particular tone over and over again trying to figure out why it wasn't working. HE IS OVER 30 AND MY EARS HURT. ARGHGHG. You know what it sounds like when the TV is on but there's no picture? That's what it sounded like times 10. argfh. Maybe earbuds haven't completely destroyed my hearing yet!

I'll probably be updating this journal a little more frequently in the coming month because I have a new OCT going on Deviantart and I don't want to get rid of that journal in case anybody new stumbles across my page. YOU ALL CARE ABOUT MY MEAGER AND BORING EXISTENCE RIGHT?!

In other news I registered for spring-quarter classes! Here's my schedule:

Intro to sequential art (labor-intensive)
Survey of computer art applications (so easy a child could do it)
3D design (middling in workload)

Spring will be a good quarter. :>

ONTO CHAPTER 2~

THAT'S RIGHT. The comic project my friend David ( http://toxictoothpick.deviantart.com ) and I are working on has finally kicked off. It's called "Compromise", and the genre is "weird western." We're splitting duties for it. This is pretty much how it goes:

Mad = story, rough pages and dialogue
David = story, finished pages and art

So in essence it's our story with my layout and dialogue and his art. yay!

I'm posting the first 10 layout pages (with notes) here instead of on Deviantart, because my DA is currently experiencing some monster traffic. I'd rather get a few great comments from you guys than fifty million desu~'s.

As you can see I'm painfully bad when it comes to text placement. Hopefully you can read everything and tell which speech bubble/text block goes where/to whom. ohoho

SPACE TRAVELLLLLLLLLLLLLL

My friend David and I are doing a western-themed comic together. These are two of the main characters, Bernie the cactus person and Paulo the solar powered gay albino guy. I wanted to post this somewhere because it's been collecting dust in my folders for a while.

The comic's called "Compromise" and it's set in a weird version of the wild west where cactus people and solar powers are quite common. Also there are no guns...but people who can throw or kick or flick bullets so fast THEY WORK THE SAME WAY. HARHARHAR

I'm probably gonna post things about the comic here rather than on Deviantart.

I feel pretentious lately, I don't know why. :

GO AND READ THIS NOW. IT'S INCREDIBLE. THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN ON THE INTERNET.

IT'S AMAZING.

The art makes me cry tears of joy. This made me truly and sincerely happy for the entire day and I can't quite explain why. The main character is named Pug Davis, has the head of a pug, and fights aliens in space. His sidekick is "The Blouse"; Blouse is very gay and very adorable and typically being menaced by something.

Many of you know that my job this summer was to document all the graffiti on the University of Pennsylvania's campus, which is in the heart of Philthy-damn-delphia. Aka Philadelphia.

SO, I've found everything I'm going to find, documented it all, and written up a proposal for how to take care of A GRAFFITI PROBLEM THAT DOESN'T EXIST. >8U PENN'S CAMPUS IS NEARLY GRAFFITI-FREAKING-FREE!!! WHAT HAVE I BEEN WORKING FOR ALL SUMMER?! 14 BUCKS AN HOUR THAT'S WHAT, AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE.

Joe and Mad's SHARKAPALOOZA is now finally getting off the ground. It pleases me. http://shark-army.deviantart.com . I spammed popular artists' pages with invitations to join, but if we don't get them at least we'll catch a few of their fans. (THIS PLAN HAS BEEN PROVEN EFFECTIVE!) (HUGE SUCCESS!)

Speaking of huge successes, I watched a friend play through Portal the other day. It was aaawesome XD Now I can finally say I've seen what all the hype is about. I want to save up and buy a PS3 for college this coming fall...mostly because Disgaea 3 is coming in August. >w>

Went and saw Kung-Fu Panda the other day. Punched myself in the face for ever thinking it would be a useless piece of dribble that would further humiliate Jack Black's once illustrious and charming career. This movie pretty much takes his charm-o meter and blows it through the roof. IT WAS JUST THAT ADORABLE. ;A;

Had a fish dream. Most of you know of it already. >_>

I'm less enthusiastic about the deviantART tournament I'm entering now than when it started. Maybe the presence of AN UBER SOOPER TARTLET STARRRRRR that has ALL TEH FANGURLZ N FANBOIZ SHITTING THURR TIGHT EMO PANTS AND MAKING CRAPPY ENTRIES has lessened my excitement. Just a bit. Juuuust a bit. It's not that I don't think the tourney's run properly (i love me sum DAWGs hosts) it's just blown up into something I never expected to enter: a sooper-huge tournament.

But enough of my dithering. I don't know what to draw lately. I feel like I just keep drawing the same thing over and over again. And making the same character over and over again but with different hair. >_> Ah well. I'll get over it eventually.
